: What was the purpose of Johnson anyway according to the Story? : If we took him out, would it have made a difference? He had attitude, from the very beginning moments of Halo 1 (the pep talk to the marines in the Autumn, which got especially enjoyable on higher difficulties). It was a nice contrast to the Master Chief. Even if people criticize Bungie for not having the best storytelling or characters, I think that the Halo series would have been just that much more bland without him.
