In Response To: Halo should be in the Smithsonian (rolandk73)

: The Smithsonian museum has a hold section dedicated to American icons. It
: includes the simpsons, star wars and many other american media giants. I
: say Halo belongs there. The museum accepts and reviews requests for
: additions and I think if enough people wrote letters, we could get the
: Chief into the museum and anchor him into history forever.

: I'll be sending a letter. Anyone else who does, post.

The Simpsons has been on the air for nearly twenty years, and has left a massive impact on the American pop cultural landscape. Star Wars, too -- the first film premiered more than three decades ago, revolutionized scifi cinema and spawned a universe of sequels, prequels, TV shows, games, etc., etc., etc.

Halo was great, and a landmark for console gaming, but there are people who will argue that it wasn't even that influential as a video game, much less compared to the entire American cultural landscape.

Maybe in ten or twenty years, if the franchise is still going strong and is still influencing other games and storylines, maybe then it would merit a place.
