Well, "correct way" might be going too far; I doubt there's just one "correct way". It's possible that game developers say "this way ought to work, too" - and by the time they figure out that it doesn't, the game's out, the money's spent, and they're working on whatever's next (and cursing Halo/CoD/GotW). Yeah, Bungie figured out a pretty good system. They make it better each iteration (imo) - but the fact that they CAN make it better says that it's not perfect. So someone else might always come along with something that beats it. (Hasn't happened yet, in my opinion, but that's certainly not to say that it won't.)
