I kept with 8.1 because I was doing Mac programming (C++) and wanted my stuff to be compatible with the Mac OS at least that far back. If I'd upgraded, testing backwards compatibility might have been an issue. Anyway, 8.1 was working plenty good enough for me; I'm not the sort that always wants to have the latest kit. Witness the fact that my new Mac is a second-hand G4 from several years back! I think we're up to G5 now aren't we? That makes me only 1 generation behind.
