In Response To: I played Halo today... (JCC)

: Just got back from the Xbox Exposed show in Atlanta. A playable Halo was on
: display there-- four-player multiplayer, deathmatch, but still it was
: great fun and to answer someone's question, it definitely has the
: "GoldenEye factor". This game will dominate college campuses
: around the country from here 'till eternity, and I'm saying that based on
: the deathmatch alone.

You know it man.

: The main thing I want to address-- the controls: I haven't been able to read
: the OXM review yet but apparently they say that after a couple hours, the
: controls will feel completely natural. This is bullshit; the control never
: felt anything but completely natural from the moment I picked up the
: controller. I was really skeptical about the placement of the analog
: sticks but they were right where my thumbs wanted them to be, and I never
: even expected it. I was strafing, head-shotting, spin-shooting-- all my PC
: FPS tricks-- instantly , on a console controller, without auto-aim or any
: other form of computer-based assistance. I wasn't the only one; everyone
: else (and there was a huge crowd for Halo) seemed very pleased about the
: control, except for one guy who was used to having his shoulder buttons
: set to strafe (GoldenEye junkie) who wanted to set the triggers to strafe.

: I've played just about every major PC FPS from start to finish, in and out of
: multiplayer. I can say the same for every major console FPS. Halo controls
: far better than any console FPS ever has before. I speak not lightly when
: I say that you can easily achieve the same degree of accuracy with Halo's
: analog sticks as you can with a mouse, and having one stick to control
: forward/backward/strafe motion makes movement far simpler and more
: comfortable than on a keyboard.

This is what Matt and everyone else (including me) have been saying for the longest time. The controls are absolutely amazing, and feel even more natural than keyboard and mouse. MUCH more natural. I love it. Glad to hear you have discovered the joy of playing Halo. :)

As for the guy who wanted the shoulder buttons for strafing .. that means you cant use the triggers on the bottom of the controller. Why in the world would you want to do that? Hehe..

Excellent, hopefully your post will help quell some of the naysayers who for some reason won't even believe Matt.
