Maybe they are just chomping at the bit for hand-to-hand combat. Perhaps that's the funnest part of the battle to them and they just can't resist going in. That could be one of the reasons the entire Covenant fleet follows the Pillar of Autumn. Master Chief gave them a serious whoopin' and he's been transported to the PoA. Their pride compels them.
