The main player shot through the chest, not the head, of the first guy and hit the coil. The coil exploded and knocked the other coil into the second red guy just as the shotgun blue guy tried to assassinate him. The blue guy even got the lunge, but never connected. If you watch at the beginning, the main player got a splatter medal. The text on the shotgun guy's screen was information telling him that the main player killed the red guy in front of him. I hope this explanation clears it up. :)
