Really? That's odd. How often does the lunge fail to connect for you in Halo 3? In my experience, if it's capable of missing, it must do so rarely, and the success rate must be just shy of 100% (like by a small fraction of a percentage). I don't recall a single time the lunge pulling a Halo 2 on me and bouncing off a guy or sending me flying past him, which happened frequently in the second game. There have been times I simply didn't lunge, but odds are that's because I wasn't in range. Likewise, I don't recall a single instance of an enemy lunging at me and failing to connect. After all my frustration with Halo 2's finicky melees, I'd definitely notice if it missed. If it has missed for me, it must have been some one-off that I don't remember.
