So, the array...

In the first game, Cortana says "Halo doesn't kill Flood, it kills their food". Guilty Spark, in the same scene, says that it will wipe out "any life with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood". I've always thought that, ok, the Array will kill pretty much everything except the Flood itself. And then, in Terminal Six in Halo 3, we see "The [Halo effect] strikes our combined fleets. All ships piloted by biologicals are now [adrift]."

But then...

In the level "The Covenant", during the last cutscene, Chief says that they're going to light the ring, and Guilty Spark says "A tactical pulse will completely eradicate the local infestation."

So... here, either Guilty Spark is telling us that activating 04 will kill all the Flood on the Ark, or he's referring to the Human and Covenant forces on 00 as an infestation? It also seems like everyone else thinks that the Flood will be killed by the activation, and that the destruction of the Ark (by way of the unfinished 04 collapsing under the weight of its own actions and whatnot) is just a side effect.

So... is Halo killing the Flood, or not? Is it designed to "Wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life", Flood included as sentient? Or is it trying to "Starve them to death"?
