What's more, it'd glow green (RoTJ-stylee)! Sure, but the only reason that's an interesting ability is because of the inherent coolness of lightsabers. If lightsabers were dumb, no one would give a damn that the ring could make one. Actually, I think the Green Lantern's ring should be disqualified from all "greatest fictional weapons" lists on account of the fact that it can replicate anything. It's a neat power, certainly, but even with its charge restriction the ring is essentially a bottomless source of deus-ex-machinas. Great fun for storytelling, but not the most compelling example of an original, iconic weapon concept.
