In Response To: Eurogamer "Halo 3: Music to watch Armageddon by" (kapowaz)
It's funny that Marty refers to Halo 3 as being like 'A Prime' (compared to Halo as A, Halo 2 as B); I'd kind of gotten that impression with a lot of the themes that returned in Halo 3. In the developer commentary for the cutscenes on the legendary bonus DVD, Marty makes reference to there being a slightly different choral theme for the Delta Halo to the original theme (you can hear it on volume 2 of the soundtrack; about 30 seconds into the Delta Halo Suite).
In Halo 3 you hear the original theme briefly again when the replacement Installation 04 slides into view at the end of The Covenant, only it's slightly different. I lack the musical acumen to describe it in any technical sense, but it's like there's another theme interwoven with the original, which overall gives it a different mood. You can hear it again at the start of the credits; if you imagine the strings weren't there, it'd just be the original Halo theme, but the strings give it another dimension. Of course, this makes perfect sense, given how each of the rings gets its own distinct theme, but since this is a replacement for the original ring, its theme is mostly the same.
The hog run at the end of the "Halo" level also has very similar components to the hog run from The Maw, too. Anybody spot any other places where original Halo themes were given a new spin in Halo 3?
