In Response To: Re: Neil Blomkamp interview (kr-1426) : Well, I think he would be good for certain aspects, like maybe Mombasa, but : anything actually taking place on a Halo would require a dramatic shift in : style. His style would be better suited for the marine perspective he : portrays in the shorts, I think. I have read the books, too, and I think : Blomkamp would be better for maybe a TFoR movie, but I like the first game : better than Dietz's novel, and would rather see a movie modeled more after : the game. Exploring Halo and its environments has a sort of wonder to it, : and I think Blomkamp's style would take away from that. Exactly. A person can be gritty and realistic while also showing off the beauty of an enviroment and invocing timeless images - theres no need for quick cuts, blurred angles and computer screen visions. They work for what he's done, yes, but would you really want to see Alpha Halo like that? A three hour movie with contant cut-aways to data screens and heat vision would get tiresome and take away from the grand spectacle and design that lies at the heart of Halo's world. The books don't visualise the world different, because they are merely words, and really that's what a director needs to do - visualise something, and so far he hasn't told me that I'd enjoy a two (or more) hour film by him. I can never forget my first view of Halo itself, curving into the sky as distant towers shoot beams of blue energy into the atmosphere... I wouldn't want to relive that using shaky camera and gritty camera effects. - Charley
