In Response To: Halo Fever #1 - New comic ! - (Mister Froggy)

LOL. Awsome comic.Very funny. ^_^

Here's some advise from a Vet. of Action Figure based comics.

1-Choose a name and subject for your comic
Pick a name early and stick with it. This way fans don't get confused later.
Both names are good. Halo Fever is easier to remember and spell. But it's also easily forgotten. But your choice. ;)
Also decidee on what kind of comic you're going to make. Is it primary story? Romance? Comedy? Action? Or perhaps Horror? It could even be a mix of two. Changing the comic's atmosphere without warning can hurt the comic. It may confuse fans enough that they'ld stop reading. Find a Target Audiance and reach for it.

2-Stay away from LOOOONG stories.
Stay Away From Long Story Arcs!! Stories tend to demand more then your originally plan to put into it. I can think of atleast ONE Halo comic that takes place after Halo1 and before Halo2. And It's Not Finished Yet!! Don't let this happen to you.

3-Characters
Decide what characters you Absolutly have to have in your comic. Get those figures and try to center each page/story/panel around them. The last thing you want is to relaize you need a certain character but can't find one for sale. >_<

4-Location! Location! Location!
Locations are just as important as the stories. Your 1st is well chosen. Try to keep unwanted magazines, papers, etc out of frame. They can be destracting to the readers.

5-Evironment
This also falls under location. Lighting in your comic doesn't seem to matter much. But it can help set a mood or damage the images. Make sure it's bright enough to see but not so bright it washes over the figures.
Also keep pets and family members away. Pets tend to touch the figures just before you take a picture of it, thus ruining it. Family members tend to come in at the worst time. Either their shadows get in the way, or they tend to start a chain reaction resulting in the image being ruined.

6-Plan Ahead!!
This is important. If you do a story at some point, write it out first. Draw doodles of the shots you want to make. Basically, make a storyboard.
Make sure that you have something to help keep the figures in place. Outside shots are difficult because the ground is not level lighting always changes. A toothpick in the ground can help prop a figure in place and prevent the wind from knocking it over. Bring a flashlight and small mirror when outside as well. Clouds Love hiding the sunlight at the worst times. Bouncing light (flashlight) off a mirror onto your figures can help with this.
Make sure your Camera is fully charged and also carry extra batteries for it. Cameras die fast when in constent use. One of the last things you want is to leave your figures outside while you run back inside for batteries.

7-Avoid The Flash!!
Most of the time, a camera's flash washes out the image. Even mre so with a Spatan's visor reflecting it. ANYTHING white, or reflective will reflect the flash directly into the camera's lens.

8-Weather
This is your worst enemy at times. The weather ALWAYS changes. You could start work in a nice hot/mild sunlight and before you fnish, the starts rain cats and dogs. If it's snow out, then dress warmly (no duh), but also uses a thick towel or tarp to sit/lay on. Snow is water after all and it WILL soak through to your skin in no time. Snow is also VERY VERY bright when the sun hits it. For these shots, it's best to turn the camera away from the sun, set the timer, and run away. This helps prevent glars, washouts, and your shadow from showing in the shot.

9-Be Patient!!
90% of the time something goes wrong. 95% of the time, it'll go wrong over and over and over.....and over again. But don't give up. At some point, it'll work out. You just need to stick with it. ^_^

10-Save! Save! Save! Save!
save your work as often as you can. I can't tell you how many times I had to restart frfom scratch simply because my computer crapped out on me before I got to save my work.

Hope this helps. As long as you continue to make them, I'll continue to read them.
Good Luck and God Bless.
Richard
