Explanation for the Lip-Syncing | |

In Response To: he beeps :) *NM* (The More Deluded) Most of the tag systems in Halo 1 and Halo 2 work the same, so I'm assuming the lip syncing bits are the same here too. Halo 1's editing kit had a field in the .sound tags labeled mouth data. When you compile a sound into tag format, tool (the program used with the Halo Editing Kit.) will create a sound file to start. Open it up in Guerilla, the tag editing program for Halo, and you go and set the type of the sound to be "Unit Dialog." Run it through tool again, and it simply takes the sound, and creates... well, just that - mouth moving data for it. Not just for one character - but for any character to use. Thats why you see Cortana here speaking 2401's lines. The mouth data bits don't control any part of the character but the mouth region, and perhaps some of the emotions in Halo 2 - I'm not positive on that, as there was no such system in Halo 1. If you notice, though, Cortana's figured looped the idle animations during the whole thing - she put her hand up to her head as though she were concentrating a few times. |
