300 is about the first true Spartans on earth, the ancient people of Sparta, from whom the name "Spartan" came about, for a breed of supersoldiers in the 26th Century. Their battle of Thermopylae, where they faced insurmountable odds, is legendary.

Almost everything in Halo has its origins: SPARTAN coming from the fierce people of ancient Sparta, MJOLNIR being the name of the hammer of the Norse God of Thunder, etc.

Personally, I can't wait for the movie. Looks great.
