In Response To: Frankie's Q&A from #HBO IRC (Konrad) : Veegie: What were the high pitches screaming during the time frame
I believe the screaming was just the sound of the incoming mortar, stylized for dramatic purposes (and to great effect, in my opinion). You hear a similar, if briefer, noise when a mortar goes off near the MC around 50 seconds in. I have to admit I wasn't looking forward to the commercial. Unlike some posters on this board, I wasn't opposed to it, but without gameplay or in-game graphics I just didn't see the point. After watching the trailer, I've changed my mind. I'm not a science-fiction buff, but I have enjoyed reading the Halo novels. My only complaint was that while the books do a great job of providing back story, they seem to exist in a completely different universe from the game. The kinds of situations described in the books, as well as the way the Spartans move, are never really shown in the games. The novels describe Spartans as agile and quick, and what we get in the games, for obvious reasons, is a Master Chief on valium. It was neat to see a scene that could have come straight from the books, with the MC moving the way we all expect a Spartan to. I also liked the way the commercial was divided into 3 parts, of which only the final third was what most of us were expecting of an FPS commercial. Digital Domain and Bungie get the gold star of the week. Well done.
