In Response To: Re: HGN observations - long **spoilers** (Peptuck) : S-Is were already a part of established Bungie canon before ILB began; they : were mentioned in both Fall of Reach (in passing) and in The Flood. Do the novels specifically call them Spartan "1.0s" (a la ILB), or just Project Orion? (It's been a while since I read them) If they're in the novels, then the only ILB "reference" is Herzog, and that could just be a coincidence ;) Ciarán.
