If ILB is canon, then the apparent age thing must be a side affect of being an S-I. Jan's dad in ILB was a Spartan-1, and the story takes place in 2552, so then he too would be around 70, unless I missed something. He doesn't sound 70, so we can only assume that a person's life span must be extended by the procedures. Of course, with advancements in medical science by the time Halo comes around, this could all be irrelevant. So what if he’s old enough to be on Medicare, Sarge is still a badass.
