you could really draw up paralells between halo and staracraft. really, starcraft was a huge hit, and it was made 3 years before halo was released, which makes it happen about in the middle of halo's developments.

games are based on what made past games so good.
starcraft had a deep storyline, which helped make it a hit, and you can obviously tell that most games now incorporate storylines into games.

but, you could look at any part of halo and be able to compare it with any merdia. for example, the hunter can be thought of as the predator(obvious since they have similar names and body structure) and marines can be just about traced to anything. many future scifi games have marines so you cant really draw up a comparison.

I really do think that halo is similar to starcrafts story, with similar units and how each race behaves. the zerg actually started as larvae that were parasties and adapted their hosts bodies to make them better suited for survival. they eventually grew a central mind, the overmind.

the protoss, are similar to the covenant, ezpecially in their technology abd how they use it. the protoss would eradicate all life on a planet that had the zerg on it, similar to glassing. they were created as the purity of form by the xel naga (similar to forerunners)*ignore spelling*. they even had ages similar to the covenant. ages where they were happpy and advanced, and then started to decay and split apart to where they couldnt psychicly talk to each other, and an age where there were thousads of years of civil war. then, finally some very high prophet-like people unite the race.very vvery similar to halo.. (check the part of hbo where there is a chart of the covie ages)

as for the terrans, it doesnt really matter as you would be comparing them with every human in every scifi game with humans in them.

bungie had probably gotten inspiration from inside themselves, thats probably most of the story line, but the ways to express that inspiration probasbly came from other games like starcraft and movies like alien.
