In Response To: Re: The Maw: Legendary Zero Shot (pushbak)

: Wow. I had attempted this run so many times. Last time I tried I blew the
: last fusion reactor and a flood AR'ed me and killed me. I kinda stopped
: playing Halo after that. But basically everything you did in your movie
: was the methodology I used too. Except when you didn't land that last
: plasma nade, I would have never thought to spawn more flood and have the
: sentinels battle them. I probably would have restarted. You executed the
: engine room very nicely. I knew that second to last plasma didn't go in
: but I was like hmm. Until you had to get the two nades the floor dropped
: which is extremely lucky. Your method of the elevator part was more
: cautious than mine haha. But you got very lucky with the fire. I always
: ran under the elevator. Waited for it to come down on me. Then meleed one
: of the elites in the back, take his grenades and stick the other elite,
: hopefully killing at least 2 or 3 grunts in the process. This yielded
: about a 1 in 8 chance of success. Haha. Very nice run. I'm glad to see
: someone did it.

I was kind of surprised no one had done this before. I'm definitely not the best speedrunner/campaign player. I love The Maw, and after seeing a couple Zero Shot runs I figured The Maw had to be possible. There aren't that many large encounters or encounters in open areas.

My run could be improved a lot. Like I mentioned in the movie, the Hunter door jump would save a lot of time if I could ever do it correctly. Also if I didn't screw up the grenade throws in the Engine room so much, that would save at least a minute. I felt so stupid after missing that last grenade. No enemies even close to me. :(

As for the elevator of enemies, I got a checkpoint there to practice without using grenades. I could assassinate the first elite, but his grenades would fall too far away to pick up quickly. I never succeeded. Plus with only 2 bars of health, I didn't want to risk it. I've died in that encounter far too often.

My first run that I should've succeeded in, the one where my Warthog did a nosedive and killed me, would have been faster, if I remember correctly. I did all the grenades correctly and beat the elevator guys faster. I'm kinda mad that I died on the Final Run, the easiest part of the level to beat.

Oh, and as for the Sentinels fighting the Flood. I used that trick many, many times to survive encounters. The Sentinels in the Bridge especially have helped me beat the Flood. Unfortunately, they also tend to get in the way, especially near the cryo room, and they often drop my shields at inopportune times at the beginning and in the engine room.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!
