X-box clone? | |
Posted By: Loren Petrich <petrich@netcom.com> | Date: 6/28/00 11:00 a.m. |
In the wonderful world of vaporware game consoles, there is already an X-box clone in the works, the Indrema L600 (http://www.indrema.com). Here is a news blurb on it: URL: http://www.zdnet.com/gamespot/stories/news/0,10870,2589087,00.html It's to come out in late summer with 30 games, and to have 20 developers by 2001; it will essentially be a stripped-down PC (PeeCee?) that uses an nVidia video card, and it will be able to support HDTV displays. So far, it looks just like the X-box, but it will be using Linux as its OS and such open-source components as the Gecko browser engine. This, it must be said, is also an X-box-like feature, because like the X-box, it will also be using a stripped-down desktop OS. And though its 3D-graphics API's were not mentioned, it should not be too difficult to guess which one(s) it will support. Its price will be $300, which will be a bit steep by console standards, but comparable to that of such Internet Appliances as the iOpener.
