musings on the tablets...
Tablet 1:
The elites originally used spears. Does that mean that the honor guard, being lancers, represent the longest warrior tradition in elite history? Good thing they were ousted, or else MC would’ve been speared’d like a fish the second he got in that council chamber.
The prophets and elites actually engaged in melee combat. Freaky.
The prophet’s blade seems geometrically aligned with the oncoming meteors. Where the elites being bombarded from space? Is this why they capitulated to the prophets?
It should be noted that already, the covenant had a three-prophet hierarchy in place.
That alphabet isn’t quite standard covenant script…
Tablet 2:
The Hunters’ armor is their aboriginal design. Canon notes that without their armor, the worms would fall apart, and we see them in their familiar pose and structure, so the armor was theirs prior to covenant involvement. FRGs and shields, however, are nowhere to be seen: were they eschewed for a hunter-on-arbiter duel, or are these examples of introduced covie tech?
The arbiter wasn’t alone in the taming, at least not for the cleanup operations; he’s got a buddy spearing corpses or POWs.
The arbiters originally used spears, not swords. Totally old school.
Tablet 3:
Each race has a different gift: each species offers something new to the covenant as a whole.
Look! A hulk!
No engineers…because of their strange status, perhaps they’re considered too sacred to be pictoralized; they directly interact with forerunner tech, and have an intimate knowledge of its workings.
Tablet 4:
It seems the energy sword was forerunner tech; does this mean that (gasp) the covenant CHANGED the design to match an elite hand, or did the forerunners have a similar anatomy?
It seems the drones, not the grunts, once formed the core of the covenant armies; or are they serving as a quick-strike advance corps here, conquering new territory in time for the prophets to commandeer forerunner relics?
Energy swords were found underground, buried beneath heavy installations? Obviously the forerunners had devised a more balanced (or shall we say, meta-stable) multiplayer experience than we have to settle for.
Tablet 5:
Obviously, the covenant ‘conquered every corner of the galaxy’. Hulks, grunts, jackals, brutes, drones, hunters – six slave races, six conquered planets?
One circle has no identifier. Weird.
Tablet 6:
The great eye goes all the way back to Egypt. It signifies the omniscience of the gods, the unlimited reach of their power.
Hrm…looks like the eye is in two parts…
Tablet 7:
OMG! SEVEN! (sorry, had to)
Note the prophet is drawn slightly above the elite…subtle, art dude. Subtle.
Following the eye->power motif, it seems the elites (with t3h energy sword) and the prophets (with super-floaty powers) are portrayed as extensions of the gods’ power.
Wow. Handshakes are even standard fare among aliens. Well, at least it’s not rishathra ;)
