Spec Thoughts Part I: The Crisis of the Sangheili

In Response To: Re: Spec Thoughts Part I: The Crisis of the Sanghe (gspawn)

: First up: You seem to be taking Halo wwwaaayyyy too seriously. It's just a
: game. Not a religion. Not a philosophy (unless you're a programmer / small
: busines). Calm down, and stop feeling the need to use big words and tons
: of prose. Totally unnecessary.

Yeah yeah, I know it's a game. But there's a strong story behind it which is the part of it that I really care about...the thing that's cool about video games right now, that might eventually make them a more powerful way to tell a story then either movies or literature is their potential for interactivity. One becomes part of the story so to speak...that's one of the reasons that I'm taking all of this so seriously, we might be on the verge of something very very important artistically speaking...that and, like you say sir, I'm sorta overly dramatic. Sorry.

: And they're Elites, now whatever their Covenant name is. You need to learn
: the Elite part, not the other name. I barely even recognize their Covenant
: name, but Elite is known even outside fanboys.

The Sangheili do call us "human" at times...but that's also mixed in with a lot of crap as well like "worthless cur". They they call the Chief "demon". But our name isn't curr and Chief's name isn't demon. We call ourselves humans and the Chief calls himself "Spartan117" and maybe, when he's feeling frinedly, "John". Likewise, if one wishes to pay respect to the Elites, one might opt for using their own names for themselves rather than something else. A big part of Halo2 was us learning that the Elites were more than just size24 hooves and bad attitudes. More than just "Elites". :)

: -With the help of Johnson and Miranda, the filthy humans. You can't split up
: the two sections- it's one thought. No one in the Covenant would make any
: distinction.
: -Or damn him eternally, depending on how everything else works out.
: -For us, not them. Chief will stop the Prophets. The Elites have the military
: strengh (with the Hunters) to be just fine. Technically, humanity doesn't
: have to matter at all to the Elites. They CAN help us, but not must.
: -I'm sure "Half-jaw" as you put it (it isn't a jaw, they're just
: mandibles that are really more of an accessory than necessity) can ready a
: ship for everyone.
: -Again, Chief has his part under control (we assume) and the Elites are
: probably going to win their fight. There's not as much urgency as you'd
: like to think.

I know that the Sangheili have mandibles, not jaws...but I dig on calling Half-Jaw "Half-Jaw...I think it's a great nickname given that we don't know his real name...if and when we find out what Half-Jaw's name is, you can be certain that hence, I will refer to him by that name...he's more than earned it. As for the military strength of the Sangheili/Lekgolo et al. vs. The Prophets, the Jiralhanae etc. I received the impression that the two sides were pretty darned even and that the humans could easily become a tipping factor. I could be wrong, you disagreee...you could be right.

: -You already said the Elites are going to win the battle. They're fine, by
: your own assumptions. Stop worrying. They're fine.

Naw, I'm not worried at all, I was merely trying to get into the head of the Sangheili and take whatever readers I might have with me. You're right, everything is going to be fine, WE know that, but the characters don't. :)
: -Master Chief and Johnson have that Klingon-type warrior's honor that will
: surely earn praise from Elites that don't mind the idea of an alliance.
: The rest of humanity would earn a spot because the Elite's old religious
: side might tell them that they used to be just as lost. Expect Elite
: churches to open on/near Earth. We all hope they want to accept us,
: because if they don't, we're dead.

: -Not going to happen. MC is the new incarnation of Marathon's security
: officer, and as we all know, the Hero will live forever (bla bla... read
: the last terminal of Infinity).

Hehe, it's funny that you allude to Marathon...I know of it's prior existence as a three part Bungie...but past that, I know jack all.

peace,

MH
