Why launch a potentially huge hit with absolutely zero : marketing? Zero marketing??? Look I'm taking a marketing class this semster. All this internet rumor and subsequnt discussion on every message board is marketing. in fact its genious. Bungie and Microsoft know where their market is, ie. us. the halo fans who follow all the news online and such. so they release a rumor or whathave you to start up a gossip machine to get the word out on their biggest market. That sure as hell worked. It makes TV advertising almost unnecessary, but of course, theyll still put ads on TV. So say it really is coming out at Xmas. 80% of their market would already know, leaving an intense TV ad campaign lasting for a few weeks to inform anyone else who was unaware. Halo 2 is the most anticipated and sought after game right now, period. Christmas presents a huge payday should H2 come out. They said the game would come out when it was done right? so why cant it be done now? And even if it isnt coming out, this rumor still proved how big this game is gonna be, and maybe thats what they wanted to know. So everyone who is saying that all this ssecret release stuff is stupid and how its bad marketing etc. etc. needs to get a clue. Obviously it wouldnt be a secret cuz we all know about it, and we all tell other people. Its not dumb its just different. and in this day and age being different from everyone else is what sells your product, its called having a competitive advantage. No one watched commercials anyways. So you get a huge internet buzz going(which is free marketing essentially) then throw in some tv adds and BAM!! huge sales world wide.
