Whether or not Cortana mentioned how the atmosphere is kept in. It is evidently true that Halo has some form of artificial gravity in addition to that which is caused by the spin of the ring.

If the Flood were to disrupt the gravity generators and gravity is needed to help keep atmosphere from leaking from Halo then the resulting thinning of the atmosphere could be considered "altering the atmosphere" could it not?
