Halothon Magazine Announcement
Posted By: Frost <VidMaster@Cyber-Wizard.com>Date: 11/16/99 12:51 a.m.

That's right, there's a freeware Halo electronic magazine getting started up! This idea has been in the works over a month now, and it's almost completely put together as well. We're so far along, a December premier issue is even feasible, though we may wait and do a January first release. And now that I have your interest and curiosity, I'll explain more.

The name is Halothon Magazine. The games are Halo and Marathon, emphasis on Halo.

What's this about Marathon as well? The magazine will be mostly about Halo, but will have bits of Marathon incorporated as well to give it a distinct flavor, and since the two games are obviously related in some way, why not make a publication with them both in it? Halothon Magazine is about 75% Halo, 25% Marathon.

What's the purpose? I could go on and on about this, so I'll just summarize as best I can to keep this from getting too lengthy.

The point is to provide news and information about Halo as well as any interesting news and info concerning the Marathon Trilogy. While more and more news websites pop up, I felt it would be interesting to break from the usual and give readers that sort of magazine feel they get when they go to the newsstand at their bookstore or get the latest issue of their favorite magazine in the mail. Halothon Magazine will be available in both a Web version usable by both platforms and a DOCMaker stand-alone document version for Mac users.

Currently Halothon Magazine is a two man team. I, the editor, get the layout of the magazine together, find content, write almost everything, handle PR, and do distribution. I will also be putting together the DOCMaker version on the Mac I'm using to type this up. The other person is a good friend of mine and a great web designer who will be building and maintaining the website and putting the Web version together based on what I do in DOCMaker as well as doing some graphical work.

While this is enough to do almost all the required work, we NEED some more content and a little bit of help wouldn't hurt either. That's where you come in. Our current positions available are:

Graphics designer - We need someone who is a wizard (or at least a wizard's apprentice) with graphics to do various work for the magazine. This job shouldn't be very intensive at all, but we need you to be on the ball whenever we do make requests for various graphics.

News reporters - A news reporter or two is needed to search through the Halo community and report all interesting news pertaining to Halo. Reporting on Marathon news is optional, and will continue to be done by the editor (me) unless someone offers to take up this job as well.

Contributors - Last but not least, we need people to contribute some time to write an article or two. This is by far the thing we are in the most dire need of. Contributors will not be members of the staff(unless you'd like the job of doing nothing but writing articles, which sounds fine with me), but they are a sort of a position. If any reader or anyone else would like to write an article about something to do with Halo and/or Marathon and wants their article published, please send it in to the Halothon Magazine editor at VidMaster@Cyber-Wizard.com.

Currently we are courting webspace in a very nice spot, and if all goes well, we should be able to have a website up very soon.

If anyone has any questions, comments, would like to apply for a position at Halothon Magazine, et cetera, please direct your e-mails to the editor at VidMaster@Cyber-Wizard.com.
