B is for? Well.....read on | |

In Response To: Re: B is for? (webrunner) > Three letters. The middle is B. We dont know the first letter. Ignoring the fact that it may be an acronym, I present the facts below. If (y)B(x) is a pronouncable word, then the first letter must be a vowel. This leaves 5 options for the first two letters: AB(x)
Now the third letter can only be one of 26 letters. Therefore we have 130 different combinations for the name. Looking in my dictionary, there is no three letter word beginning with AB in English. Nor is there such a word in Latin. There is, however, such a word in Japanese, abu means a horsefly. Doing the same test on the other 4 two letter combinations, I reached the following conclusion: These are all the three letter words in all three languages mentioned above that start with a vowel and the letter B. abu (Japanese, meaning: a horsefly)
Take your pick. As I only had access to two dictionaries (Latin and Japanese), I could not check any other languages. Bungie may be trying to get a game title in every language they sell to. Myth in English, Oni in Japanese and the next in German, French, Portugese or Korean. That was a fine way to use 30 minutes of my time. Thoughts? Suggestions? Should I get a life? Riemek
