Maybe something to do with patterns? cycles? repetitions? how you can change the pattern of something ("The candles burn out for you. I am free.") by trying?
along that last thought, it wouldn't be too difficult to create the infinity storyline based on that idea...you try one path, it burns out. you try another path, it burns out. you try a third path, and you're suddenly free.
