Does the marine know that he is a cyborg?

Now this is a topic worthy of it's own thread.

I firmly believe that the marine has no idea he is a cyborg, and I believe there is backing within the story and some logical evidence to support this.

At no point in the game is it made clear that the character is the tenth Mjolnir, and none of the AIs in direct contact with the player ever overtly states this fact. Granted, given the lack of any insight into the marine's thoughts as the game unfolds, it may be impossible to prove conclusively, but the few glimpses we have of the marine's personal thoughts (in the M1 manual), lead one to believe that the player is a security officer from the Tau Ceti colony, nothing more, nothing less. It has him remembering his father, his childhood on Mars, his father's death when you were seven. Normal human memories. It implies that you find it "funny" that you were always the colony's trouble shooter, bigger, stronger, etc. If you had knowledge of your cyborg status, you wouldn't find that unusual at all. As an aside, if there were nine other cyborgs assimilated into the population, why would the player be the biggest, strongest, etc.? Is the marine a different model of cyborg than the others?

It is also likely that, since the cyborgs were smuggled on board the Marathon and later infiltrated into the population of the colony, the parties responsible for their presence would have taken pains to keep their special status hidden. It would be a lot easier to keep this a secret if even the cyborgs themselves were unaware of their true natures. Some kind of neural shunt/hypnotic conditioning/reprogramming of the cyborgs to make them believe that they were just another crewmember or soldier is possible. Maybe the memories the marine recalls in the Mirata are not his own, but implanted memories (shades of Blade Runner)? There may well have been a trigger mechanism of some sort that when engaged restored the cyborgs to their true, battle-ready states (shades of the Manchurian Candidate, only in reverse). Perhaps Durandal at least partly triggers this mechanism during his communication with the Marine aboard the Mirata or later, allowing him to go on his subsequent single-handed guerilla war against the Pfhor invaders.

Judging by the almost mocking tone of some of the messages where Durandal hints at the possibility of the marine being other than or more than human, the marine is at least oblivious of the fact, and may be in active denial of his "inhumanity". If the marine knew he was a cyborg, Durandal would likely have either stated it plainly or just not brought it up in the first place.
