In Response To: Re: Pattern Buffers... the tru7h (Thomas)

This perhaps also explains many of the strange things seen in the first Marathon. I speak of the fact that the ship was put together in such an incredibly stupid and unsafe way. Who cares about the lava lying about, no handrails over multi-story drops, platforms and doors that crush to death anyone under them... and in some cases just shoot out from the floor... when we punched our card this morning, we also punched the pattern buffer.

It also explains why Bobs would stand stupidly unmoving in front of the Pfhor (and hulks... good God) while the aliens slap them to death. As death becomes meaningless, so too does life.

It must make for very strange notifications of death.

"I'm sorry Mrs Foo, your husband fell into one of the pits of firey lava we leave lying about while trying to scale a sheer wall to reach a switch twenty feet off the ground."

No reaction from Mrs Foo. "I take it you've resurrected him?" she asks, more bored than anything else, really.

"Well, of course. He's in the other room watching TV. He tagged along when I came to inform you of his death."

She bursts into tears.

"Gosh darnit, we were the same age when we married, but what with all the time lost from these dairly resurrections now I'm fifty and he's twenty-five! You think a fifty year old menopausal woman can keep her twenty-five your old husband on the porch?"

Can't we all spare a tear for Mrs Foo?

Before anyone decides to correct me, I don't believe a word of this.

I'm testing pasting multi-line text.

For some reason it didn't work in OmniWeb.

That vexes me. I'm extremely vexed.
