Not a stupid idea. They have nanobots now that can fit into arteries and are being tested in people with cholesterol problems or hardened artery walls.
It makes sense that in however many years in the future marathon was launched they would have more workable, much more advanced nanobots.

Also they have really cool big robots why not really cool little robots :)
