Poor wossisname from : PID eventually died, of whatever cause, but his soul - the Universal : Soldier (cue music) - keeps reincarnating elsewhere and elsewhen. That would explain a lot. The gilgamesh term brings this to mind. If it was about the marine, then the marine could be just a reincarnation of the same character who was those previous heroes. Maybe it is the personality that goes through each one, the ultimate hero's choice of a body to take on. With Bungie, anything's possible.......
