However, we say gallium, germanium, and indium, not to mention titanium, scanadium, ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium. The general rule in the periodic table seems to be -iums; it's just that (we) Americans are too lazy to say the extra syllable, so much so that we've begun trying to convince the rest of the world that the i really isn't there.
