In Response To: Re: Rubicon Volunteers - The Ascension Factor (Inverted Sock Puppet) : A single-turn helix? I call it a circle :) Whatever you call it, Chris likes this structure – a lot. He borrowed this one from the level Core Wars, but we also see this again in Sucking/Blasting Cherries. : But the Marine and Durandal have never been removed from each other. True, but neither was Kate removed from the dream character. Perhaps I didn't state this as well as in the dream, where it was made clear that Kate was the phantom for the dream character's removed soul. : Did you actually realise this the first time you played through Rubicon? There is a lot of stuff I'm posting here that I didn't realize until I sat down to analize it critically. I certainly didn't understand what was happening in Infinity the first, second, or tenth time through! In the case of Rubicon, I'm afraid I didn't really understand what the Jjaro were saying until I started to work on the volunteers series, when I could take the time to analyze each word, free from peril. That makes quite a difference! With the Ascension Factor, I didn't spend much time reading the terminal text. In fact, it took me a long time to get past the Ascension Factor on TC. Since This Hurts Less is a rebellion level, I believe I actually skipped the Ascension Factor the first time through, coming back to it only after I had completed the rest of the Pfhor Plank. But that's a matter of game stategy, whereas this series is about the story behind the game. |
