Question: Population of Mars Colony before coup?

Does anyone have an estimate or best guess as to the human population of Mars before the failed MIDA coup of 2321 (or the failed MIDA coup of 2466, according to Lost Network Packets)?
On Terminal 2 of The Rose we read:
MIDA gained control of Mars for only three
months, but their rule was ruthless and cruel. The MIDA death
squads killed anyone who they suspected of being loyal to the
UEG. Although accurate census data is not available for that
period, it is estimated that about ten percent of the
population was killed.
What do folks think and why? Hundreds? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Millions? Billions?
I haven't been able to find any clues in the Marathon game universe. Here are a few of my own initial thoughts and questions and sources I figured could be helpful...
Salotti (2020) estimates the minimum number of people needed for a colony on Mars to be 110.

What size population would be needed to support the creation of a colony ship that can carry 24,000+ crew? I've read that for the Apollo program NASA "employed 400,000 Americans and required the support of over 20,000 industrial firms and universities".

Cannon & Britt's (2019) article "Feeding One Million People on Mars" explores how it might be possible to grow and sustain a Mars colony of 1,000,000 people in about 100 Earth years time.
