More or less, yes. The original myth would be impossible to confirm without the W'rkncacnter itself demonstrating its existence. I think that either the outcome of the player's actions creates another time loop/forking path that extends to whether or not the W'rkncacnter was tossed into the sun in the first place. If the player succeeds, the W'rkncacnter may as well not be there at all. Alternatively, containing the Trih Xeem prevents the W'rkncacnter from awakening, and the W'rkncacnter stays dormant.
Bolding mine - the word dormant comes from the Latin dormiens, which means "to sleep". Even if the player's actions don't affect what happens in the distant past, the creature itself may as well be asleep, and in that state, undetectable. Just like MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI and Azathoth, the W'rkncacnter destroys reality when it wakes up. Perhaps, unlike its counterpart underneath the Yucatan peninsula, this particular W'rkncacnter wasn't dreaming and so didn't give off any obvious indications of its presence.
