Worth noting that these are all translations, as well. It's very possible that aliens don't have a conception of gender or pronouns, or at least not the way we know it. For instance, if the bugs are like bees and ants, where the vast majority are sterile drones, gender may only be relevant when discussing the queen and her mates. Assigning T'fear and the scientist male pronouns might be an arbitrary or dramatic choice on the part of whatever translator Durandal has made for us.
