Probably just worm/virus programs. To a self-aware piece of software, such infectious code would be as unwelcome as a tapeworm to a human.

That said, the specific choice of words makes me wonder if there was an intended connection to the abandoned 'cyberspace' feature teased in a certain IMG Sneak Peak...
