I'd got the impression you'd also wanted to play older games on it, too (Or on whatever Mac you could wrangle). Am I off on this? I figure he wouldn't have stuck a newer OS on if this was a factor and he knew. At least, I'm assuming here that it was installed over a prior OS as opposed to on a fresh partition or whatever. If you've got more than one startup disk, let me know if this is so. (Was it your or his decision to install High Sierra?)

Also, to add to what treellama said on the other thread regarding older versions: you should actively collect them, lest you find they're gone when you need them. Don't know if I'd asked this earlier, but did this Mac come with install disks by any chance? It would probably also be a good idea to back up your current OS to an external hard drive or something.
