Bear in mind I'm bringing up a time when the style wasn't cartoonish, it was the futuristic HD graphics of the future that blew Super Mario World out of the water with its realism, and I was, like... nine, at most? (I mean, look at it's tagline: "The closest you can get to Virtual Reality without a helmet!")

Going back to it in the future when it was freeware felt mostly nostalgic, but there were still a few surprises like the blue meanie and barney to make me s'pht my pants.
