I do understand the time travel part as well: Mother 2 Gyiyg is himself from after his own trauma in Mother 1 after he saw Maria dying (hmm. sounds like another underrated Japanese game I love)and Ninten and his friends singing Marias lullaby to him making his pain worse.

Between the two games he appeared to have had such a bad mental breakdown at his human stepmother's passing away, it because a physical one, hence why he is nothing more than something similar to an W'rkncacnter.

I wonder who did the drawings of his form in that game if he never told the artists what sort of shape to resemble? Did Itoi do them himself? It would make sense.
