I never knew that. I thought that they were written by Eric and William as their own work which was approved by Bungie and Microsoft. I learnt something new today.

I know what you mean. I own the original copies of the first three, before they were reprinted. They are also full of plotholes e.g. Covenant species using their human names instead of their real ones i.e. Elite instead of Sangheli or Hunter instead of Mgalekgolo.
