And then pieces of it started getting retconned before Halo 2 even came out.

Speaking of H2, I've been replaying the ass-tastic PC port Microsoft pushed out to incentivize Windows Vista, and the graphics look amazingly bad compared to H1. I guess we never did find out what the S'pht text on the loading screens actually says, if anything.
