: Unfortunately, some amount of modification is still necessary to play
: Marathon TCs in Aleph One. I believe Trojan comes as a set of patches that
: have to be applied in Classic, and of course the music would also have to
: be extracted and converted to .ogg since we don't have access to QuickTime
: Musical Instruments.
Extracting the hidden game info hacked in the app, and pulling out the data from it's resource fork with ResEdit, should not be much of an issue, and converting the music to .ogg just requires a Mac with QuickTime Musical Instruments installed (as it still is on my old Mac Clone).
: For many TCs this is not a problem, but the author of Trojan was very clear
: about not permitting distribution of an Aleph One-friendly version. So,
: the best we can do for Trojan is provide instructions on how to do
: everything yourself--but you'll still need a classic Mac to put everything
: together.
I much prefer the attitude of most modern mod author's to that of the old school mod authors back in the day. These days, with very few exceptions, today's mod authors understand the fluid collaborative nature of the Internet, and offer up their works to be freely shared with proper attribution of their original source. Back in the day, when there was scarcely, by modern standards, anything resembling an Internet, and there was nothing resembling today's open source revolution, mod authors held on to their works as tightly and as dearly as if they were holding onto their own testicles. Times change, as do customs and attitudes, and hopefully, when that change can be demonstrated to be mostly positive, we can all change along with them.
