Perhaps the use of the word "map" evokes different impressions. Marathon mappers tend to think of a map in terms of a collection of levels or as being synonymous with a Marathon game level. For the purposes of the in - game story, Leela can use the word "map" in her presentation of directions for the player, but it may affect a halt to the 'suspension of disbelief' if we are thinking about a level designer placing polygons and text instead of navigating the environment.
