This would suggest to me that the text was removed so that it wouldn't display so preserving the original terminal look and feel. Those devious diehard preservationists at work again. :)

I went back through my change notes to see what happened here. In the original version of M1A1 additional text had been added to the failure message. The level was also set to 'Retrival'. Failing to retrieve the Fusion Pistol got you this extended failure message and also teleported you to one of the many added secret levels in M1A1. All gone now. Phhht! Just like that.

Cool Fusion now plays like the original. Correcting it would be easy. But would it be canon?

What canon should or should not be preserved? Now that's a good debate. :)
