You must be referring to the TRBDC's. The teleport relay and buffer-drop compartments are in the main disused and were rendered obsolete during the latter stages of the Marathon's construction, but it's not implausible that someone gets erroneously sent to one by a badly compromised network or AI. It makes sense that any baddies teleported into them from an off-ship source would automatically trip the field variance actuators, basically trapping them in there.
