: There's two interesting things about this chapter screen. For one, we haven't
: yet encountered the robot-looking things in the background (Marathon
: Automated Defenses Drones, or 'MADDs' for short). The second one is more
: subtle. What do we notice that's interesting about the Security Officer
: (aka the player)? Nothing fairly obvious. However, you'll notice that the
: 'colorful' parts of the SO's uniform are purple. What's odd is that purple
: isn't a color we can wear! Very interesting and yet easily overlooked.
The M2/M∞ player colors are an M1A1 inconsistency. In the original Marathon, the first six player colors were different. They were Violet, Red, Tan, Light Blue, Yellow, and Brown in order. The last two, Blue and Green remained throughout the Trilogy. An example of the original M1 colors can be seen in the GUNS, 3-D, ALIENS, FIRE ad (wait, is that one pink?!).
I made this shapes file several months ago. It gives the M1A1 player graphics the complete original M1 color tables, with colors to spare for the extra Orb and PiD pillar (wut) graphics. The colors are in the original order because I couldn't get them to work after I rearranged them, so you may end up having to use F6 a lot to find the one you want.

Violet is my favorite M1 color. And I do not see Barney colors here. ;)
