Every control that was in the original game is available on the controller, with the exception of the "cycle inventory" keys- those weren't needed when the HUD was rearranged (the old one would have been unreadable on a TV, and wouldn't work in widescreen). I'm not sure what you mean by "mainly looking around" but the move and look controls are the same as Halo, on the analog sticks. There are several control sets available, including left-handed variants for Claude and other wackos.

The only brand new control added was a button to swap between your current weapon and fists, because hey, they're fists. A real Marathoner should be doing that all the time anyway.

I think the default control set looks like this:
Move: Left stick
Look: Right stick
Swim: Click and hold either stick
Glance: X and Y
Fire: Right trigger
Secondary fire: Left trigger
Switch weapons: Shoulder buttons
Action: A
Toggle map: Left or right on directional pad.
Zoom map: Up or down on directional pad.
Fists: B
