Wouldn't that be a crap-ton more work compared to just releasing their source code, though? (Is that all the GPL requires in this case?)

Pretty dang conjectural. I don't think the gain would outweight the cost in this case.

Also, what do you mean by it's a guarantee? It's my understanding that non-HD users represent a considerable fraction of 360 customers.

Also conjectural. Once they agree to include multiplayer at all, it's a whole new can of worms of expectations, what with matchmaking and voice chat and saving your game in co-op. And personally, I'd really like to see them make a way for PC and 360 users to play together, yet somehow allow no possibility of cheating even with both versions open-source.

Or the ratings board is just getting to them out of order. Again, assuming they're actually being made, which seems improbable at this point.
